Smart Growth

I am very proud of the work that my colleagues and I have done to ensure smart growth for James City County. We have passed policies to enhance the rural character of the county and put into place other policies that work to maintain our quality of life. I have also worked with County Administration to ensure a better working relationship with our JCC businesses. We are fortunate to have businesses that want to invest in our community and it is important that we work with them to streamline the process of opening a business. With the support of my board colleagues, I introduced a grant program for businesses willing to repurpose existing buildings to begin new businesses. It is a win-win for the community and the business.

Citizen Services

I work to ensure a record of responsiveness to citizen concerns, questions and ideas. While roads in JCC are a responsibility of VDOT, I believe very strongly in working with citizens to ensure that safety issues and maintenance issues are addressed. For example, I worked with VDOT and citizens to address the traffic pattern of an unsafe intersection and an unsafe speed limit. Since the implementation of the new traffic pattern and speed limit, we have seen a noticeable decrease in the number of accidents.

Fiscal Responsibility

James City County has maintained a high bond rating for the past several years. The fiscal management of this county is extremely important to me. So is ensuring that JCC continue to provide its citizen with high quality amenities and services while working to ensure that we are using tax dollars wisely and efficiently.

I served 10 years on the school board, giving me the background to recognize the best path for WJCC schools and support our teachers and students. Berkeley District citizens reach out to me on a number of issues every day, if I don’t have the answer, I work to get them one and to get them to the right person to address their concern.

Still the best choice for JCC!
